The Success of Chemishield at The London BioScience Innovation Centre

About The Client
London BioScience Innovation Centre (LBIC) is a premier hub for life sciences in London, offering top-tier laboratory and office facilities. Established in 2000 to address the shortage of life sciences accommodation in central London, LBIC is a key component of the London Development Agency’s strategy to develop a commercial life sciences cluster.
The LBIC hosts over 50 biotechnology and life science companies. Located near major transport hubs and institutions like the Francis Crick Institute and the British Library, LBIC provides unparalleled access to research materials and business support. It attracts a diverse range of companies and offers shared networking spaces and meeting rooms, with a management team skilled in supporting biotechnology businesses.
The Challenge
Prior to the implementation of Chemishield, waste management was a paper laden process that relied heavily on manual entry and subsequent transfer of waste data into a spreadsheet. This was a time consuming process.
Additionally, waste segregation posed additional challenges such as waste streams becoming contaminated leading to increased disposal costs and potential safety/environmental issues.

Why Chemishield?
Chemishield was presented to us as a solution to allow us digitally transform this process. We use Chemishield daily on our mobile devices to log and label waste. This process takes us seconds, allowing us to spend time on other activities that require attention. Chemishield ensures correct segregation of waste and has built in prompts/alerts to ensure that waste streams remain fully segregated. This has allowed us to unlock so many benefits; increased safety, enhanced efficiencies, all waste data in one location, removing paper and spreadsheets, viewing waste levels in real time allowing for optimized scheduling and collection of waste. It truly has been transformative.

The Results
Chemshield has digitally transformed waste management at the LBIC. This hasallowed the team to unlock so many benefits resulting in serious hard and softdollar savings.
