Chemishield and ZAGENO Partner to Connect Lab Procurement with Hazardous Waste Compliance
PUBLISHED
DUBLIN, Ireland and CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts — Chemishield, a SaaS platform that modernises hazardous waste tracking, segregation, and compliance, today announced a strategic partnership with ZAGENO, the leading R&D lab supply procurement platform that connects research teams with suppliers globally. The collaboration extends ZAGENO’s procurement intelligence into downstream waste workflows, giving life sciences, pharmaceutical, and biotech organisations a single digital view of material movement from supplier to safe disposal.
The partnership arrives as laboratories prepare for a wave of mandatory digitalisation. The US Environmental Protection Agency is retiring paper manifests in favour of the e-Manifest system, the European Union's Digital Waste Shipment System (DIWASS) takes effect on 21 May 2026, and the first phase of the United Kingdom's Digital Waste Tracking (DWT) mandate begins in October 2026. These mandates are now driving labs to digitise the full lifecycle of every chemical—from purchase to disposal—for the first time.
“ZAGENO already gives procurement and research teams full visibility into what they buy,” said Florian Wegener, Co-Founder and CEO of ZAGENO. “With Chemishield, we extend that visibility across the full lifecycle—turning ZAGENO into the system of record for every material from purchase to disposal, where compliance, safety, and cost risks are highest.”
Through the partnership, ZAGENO extends its procurement platform with integrated waste compliance capabilities powered by Chemishield, including at-source segregation intelligence, automated GHS/CLP-compliant labelling, and an audit-grade digital chain of custody. By integrating Chemishield's capabilities directly into ZAGENO’s procurement workflows, the platform delivers a continuous mass-balance view—reconciling what enters the lab with what leaves it and closing a long-standing visibility gap for compliance, safety, and sustainability teams.
"Every lab knows what it purchases. Far fewer can confidently say what happens to those chemicals once they leave the bench," said Kevin Walsh, Founder and CEO of Chemishield. "That gap is where audit failures, near-misses, and hidden costs live. Together with ZAGENO, we're giving scientists, EHS leaders, and procurement teams a continuous digital record from the moment a reagent is ordered to when its waste stream is reconciled."
The partnership is available to ZAGENO customers worldwide immediately, with an initial focus on life sciences and pharmaceutical clients operating across the UK, US, and EU, the three markets where hazardous waste tracking mandates will take effect over the next 18-24 months.
